Junior Landcare News – Who knew nature was such a wonderful art resource!

After many months of staying at home and practising safe social distancing, our Junior Landcare Superheroes were very excited to attend our Nature Art Day! It was great to finally be able to get together as a group in a lovely outdoor natural bush setting.

The group was given the use of a lovely private property at Kybong, and we must say a special thank you to Dr Jayne Clapton & Bob Harriman for hosting us!

We began the day with Sandra Ross from the Gympie Regional Gallery who taught us all about how to create an artist book using leaves! The children were then tasked with scouring the property to find the prefect leaves which they used for their masterpieces.

I think everybody’s favourite part of the day was the sausage sizzle lunch, before our afternoon consisted of some nature-themed rock painting and the children had so much fun for this part of the session. Our lovely rock-painting-extraordinaire volunteer, Renee, brought along some example rocks that she had painted in order to give the children some ideas and inspiration.

Overall it was a fantastic day had by all, even though we only had a relatively small group. We can’t wait to see the children again next week when our regular sessions resume on Thursday 16th July 2020.
