Gympie Landcare, in partnership with Burnett Mary Regional Group have planned a marine & litter debris clean up for the Gympie Region, from the 4th to the 9th July.
Our region has experienced some of the worst flooding and destruction in history and we are urging our caring community to join us in a major clean up on the Mary River and our east coast waterways.
Do you have land on the Mary River or know someone who does?
Do you need help removing litter and flood debris?
Contact Gympie Landcare now to help as part of flood recovery!
Tangaroa Blue have already undertaken extremely successful major clean ups of our coastlines and waterways but there are still small plastics and rubbish that are of real threat to our marine & river life life.
If you have a few hours to spare, and you would like to contribute to protecting our marine life and threatened species, please consider joining us on one of several clean up days planned from 4th to 9th July. Bring your boat, kayak, or come on foot.

We will be focusing largely on the Mary River and Rainbow area 8th to 9th, with smaller teams working on other areas, mentioned below, throughout the week.

  • The Sands Mary River Gympie – Postponed
Unfortunately we have had to postpone the clean up scheduled for Friday 8 July, due to the recent heavy rains making the river, and areas surrounding the river, too unpredictable and unsafe. Our Saturday clean up will proceed as planned and we will reschedule the Mary River clean up at a later date.
We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause but our first priority has to be the safety of all our wonderful staff and volunteers.
  • Rainbow Beach
    When: Saturday, 9 July 2022
Meet Location: Phil Rogers Park (Opposite Rainbow Beach Surf Club)
    Registration: 9am

Other areas we will be targeting include specific locations on:

  • Inskip Point
  • Tin Can Bay Waterways
  • Cooloola Cove Inlet

Wonderful organisations such as Cooloola Coast Care, Mary River Catchment Coordinating Committee, Ride on Mary & Gympie Regional Council are also supporting this fantastic project.
We will be hosting a community bbq at both meet up locations @2pm to thank all of our amazing volunteers for your help, so come along, get involved and help make a real difference during flood recovery!
