The Messmate Park Bushcare Group is a group of like-minded volunteers who enjoy caring for one of our local natural environments – the Messmate Park.
The weather has been ideal for chipping weeds. Jenny, Dave and Peter did a really great job at tackling Hamill grass on the northern edge of the park. This area is looking well maintained with trees planted some years ago now providing shelter for smaller tree seedlings and grasses.
Another couple of weeds to be aware of are Siratro and Glycine. These two vines grow very well and quickly cover disturbed areas. Newly planted trees in our koala corridor have been smothered – Meg is making sure weeding around these plants is maintained.
We would love to see some new faces come along and admire our great park!
Join us on Saturday 15th August at 8:30am for an enjoyable morning – just follow Tin Can Bay Road, before turning onto Priddy Rd – the park is on Tinana Creek. Please bring a chair, hat, water bottle and sunscreen.
