Rehabilitation of the Gympie town reach of the Mary River has been ongoing for many years supported by the MRCCC, Gympie Landcare and Gympie Regional Council. The images below are from Clean Up Australia Day 2005 when Lantana, Chinese Elm and Cat’s Claw Creeper were removed and riparian species were mass planted near the Gympie Weir, and Clean Up Australia Day 2015 when volunteers helped with the riverbank clean up. Since then, the River Walk has been constructed with more riparian species planted to help stabilise the riverbanks.
To help maintain the site and keep the Cat’s Claw creeper vine from taking over again, the MRCCC is calling for volunteers to form a Bushcare group to help weed the Riverwalk and our first date will be Saturday 8th June. If you are interested in helping out, meet at the rear of the Touch Footy Clubhouse at 1.00 pm and please bring secateurs, gloves and wear sturdy footwear and appropriate clobber!. Bring a plate to share for afternoon tea and we will provide tea, coffee and water for volunteers. For more info or to RSVP call the MRCCC on 5482 4766 or email admin@mrccc.org.au We hope to see you there!
